On April 12th and 18th, Robertson Building Systems hosted two separate Regional Meetings for its Authorized Builder Network in Ontario and Alberta, with 70+ Builders in attendance from 37 different builderships. During the business session of our meetings, our panel of experts (Bob Zabcik, Arnold Corbin, and Randy Edger to name-drop the trio) shared industry insights and loads of relevant information.
And then there were the after parties, after-after parties, networking opportunities over cocktails, and an elegant Awards Gala to top it all off.

2018 marked the first Robertson Builder Meeting in three years, and the theme of the Meeting—Back in Action—was both timely and appropriate. As Bob Patterson, Vice President of Robertson, noted in his opening remarks: “It has been way, way too long since we have all been together. We’ve come here today to reconnect and reestablish that together we are back in action.”
Business Session
The meetings commenced with a business session in the afternoon, which included presentations from a panel of industry experts as well as employees from Robertson. After welcoming all the Builders, Bob gave an engaging and informative recap of Robertson’s business performance over the past year, followed by commentary on the effects of the uncertainty that the volatile political and economic environments have had on the industry.
After Bob’s opening remarks, our industry experts were invited to address the attendees. With over 80 years of combined experience in their respective industries, their technically robust topics included content around energy codes and solutions for IMPs and standard insulation.
The second half of the business session gave Robertson staff members the opportunity to update the attendees on changes and updates regarding Manufacturing, Quality, Marketing, Sales, and Business Development.
The business session closed out with our call to action of $20 for Orders. If you have ever been to a Robertson Meeting, you’ll likely be familiar with this meeting ritual where Builders are invited to submit orders to us—whether they be written on a paper printout or scribbled on a cocktail napkin—in exchange for a $20 bill. The excitement from the two groups resulted in a flurry of new business that promises for a busy year ahead.
Robertson Builder Awards Gala
After an afternoon of informative presentations, each of the meetings ended in the evening with the Robertson Award Gala. The Gala featured memorable four-course dinner where Builders from the east and west were recognized and awarded for their hard work, dedication, and success throughout 2017.
In past years, the Robertson Builder Awards have always been highly anticipated, and this year did not disappoint. We were able to acknowledge milestone anniversaries for Robertson Builders, like the partnership between us and Turcon Construction Group, which has spanned nearly half a century at 46 remarkable years.
Our other awards allowed us to recognize each of the Top Builders by District, Outstanding Builder, Million Dollar Awards, and the highly coveted Top Builder of the Year. These awards are distinctions reserved only for the very best Builders that demonstrate excellence in their business.
While Outstanding Builder Awards and Million Dollar Awards recognize Builders who have generated $500,000 and at least $1 Million dollars in sales in a single calendar year alone, the Top Builders by District are ranked #1 in their respective territories, while Builder of the Year outranks even this prestigious distinction.
In 2017, Robertson recognized two Builders of the Year: Lanca Contracting Ltd. in the east and Boychuk Design-Build in the west.
