Robertson, A Critical Building Products Provider

Dear Valued Customer,

As the situation with COVID-19 (coronavirus) becomes more critical, our nation takes pause in appreciation of the things that we may have once taken for granted both in our personal and professional lives: from handshakes with a customer, to the daily hustle at the jobsite; from the ease of safely buying and selling products, to the certainty of the supply chain.

With perspective on what’s critically important, Robertson Building Systems recognizes that our and our customers’ businesses are essential to ensuring that critical infrastructure needs are met through the COVID-19 pandemic. We’re proud to support you through this uncertainty, and with widening shelter-in-place mandates and hurricane season just around the corner, we must continue to work together to support our communities.

Our manufacturing plants remain open and we are working hard to minimize any impact to lead times. We maintain our operations knowing that we provide a sustainable source of supplies for construction projects, including for residential housing, hospital and government buildings. We support their resilience to service interruptions, natural disasters and other adverse events that can put those on the front lines at risk.

The safety and health of our employees and communities continues to be our #1 priority. In our continued operations, we are following the social distancing and hygiene practices advised by the PHAC as well as enacting significant preventative measures to ensure the safety of our employees and yours.

Our sales, customer service and technical support staff are working remotely and remain available by phone and email as usual. Understanding that this is a fluid situation, we will contact you to confirm the scheduled production of your orders and adjust as your project schedules require.

We’re in this together—as a society, as an industry and as business partners—seeking to restore our communities’ safety and health. We remain deeply committed to our customers and workforce and thank you for your continued support as well. Please stay safe and healthy, and don’t hesitate to contact us should you have any questions or concerns.

Thank you,

Tim Schrock

Update on the Coronavirus

Dear Valued Customer,

Over the past few weeks, it’s become clear that we are faced with an unprecedented challenge with the introduction of COVID-19 (coronavirus). Like you, we are deeply concerned about its effect on our families, communities and the world. To keep our workforce healthy and safe, as well as minimize any disruption to our supply chain operations, Robertson Building Systems alongside our parent company Cornerstone Building Brands has established a multi-functional and business unit task force that meets daily to monitor the status of COVID-19.

We are focusing our efforts in three areas:
Prevention
We’re taking proactive steps to ensure the safety and health of our employees and yours, including:
• Implementing additional, rigorous facility cleaning procedures and increased availability of anti-bacterial wipes, hand sanitizers and other cleaning materials accessible to employees
• Keeping all employees informed of best practices to promote their continued health
• Encouraging employees to self-report if they become sick and requiring quarantine; implementing advanced remote work policies and flexible work options to accommodate the needs of employees and their families
• Following CDC guidance for banned travel to areas listed as Levels 2 and 3 COVID-19 threat, restricting non-essential travel, and encouraging virtual meetings.

Equipped to Respond
We are following updates and guidance from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and the World Health Organization (WHO). Additionally, as members of National Association of Manufacturers (NAM) board, Cornerstone Building Brands has found the NAM COVID-19 resource guide (nam.org/coronavirus) to be a very useful and comprehensive tool in helping us move through this evolving situation.

Securing our Supply Chain
Our customers are at the heart of our company and we’re working around the clock to ensure you have access to all our products, and that they’re delivered on time and in full. We are in frequent contact with our vendors to stay updated on the availability of components needed to produce and are reviewing alternate sourcing and stocking options should it become necessary. Additionally, our extensive, national production footprint and distribution network uniquely position us to effectively manage potential fluctuations in available workforce. As a result, we foresee little to no impact on our production and ability to fully service you.

We recognize this is a very challenging time for us all, and we remain deeply committed to the safety of our customers, workforce and communities. We will continue to closely monitor this situation and provide updates as they become available. Please stay safe and healthy, and don’t hesitate to contact us should you have any questions or concerns.

Sincerely,
Christopher Nelson

2019 Robertson Photo Awards

Photo Awards

The Robertson Photo Awards is designed to provide an opportunity for Robertson Builders to encourage professionalism and enrich the quality of images in the metal building industry.  With the wide penetration of digital cameras and video capabilities, the environment surrounding photography has dramatically changed.  Adapting to this change, the Robertson Photo Awards was reconceived, and it continues to evolve to create new standards.

Any Robertson Builder may submit photos for the Awards and you may enter as many projects as you wish.  All projects featured on our website, social media, and in our brochures are submissions from past Photo Awards, so this program is your opportunity to get your projects published by Robertson.

Welcome to 2019: Letter from Vice President of Robertson Building Systems

2018 has come and gone, and we can reflect on what has undoubtedly been a memorable year.  While the construction industry has thrived in Canada due to many external factors, including general economic growth, increased optimism in the oil sands, and certain government policies, it has also faced challenges, including a declining Canadian dollar, the transportation sector squeeze, and political factors, such as tariffs on steel and uncertain NAFTA negotiations.

Robertson’s year has very closely matched that of the industry.  While we experienced significant growth, it did not come without its challenges.  We recognize this and strive to improve as we enter 2109.  Our Voice of the Customer (VOC) score remained strong, indicating our efforts are adding value to our partnerships.  I am looking forward to exploring these efforts at our Builder Meeting this February.

The difficulties we’ve faced have put Robertson and our Builders to the test and we have, for the most part, emerged stronger despite these challenges.  While we will always be subject to external forces, Robertson will continue to work hard to persevere and mitigate negative effects with the resilience and hard work we are known for.

As we tackled the challenges put in front of us, 2018 ended on a positive note.  In October 2018, the USMCA was established, reducing uncertainty around future trade with the US.  Analysts estimate Canadian GDP to grow by 2.0% and 1.8% in 2019 and 2020 respectively, signaling a healthy economy that will promote business growth now and in the future.  In addition, our parent company NCI Building Systems, Inc. completed a merger with Ply Gem, LLC, a leading manufacturer of exterior building products in residential construction.  What this transaction means for us is increased opportunities for product innovation and cross-selling.

There are many great things on the horizon for Robertson and our Builders in 2019, and we are ready to make this the best year yet.  Cheers to a successful 2018 and an even better 2019!  Thank you for your continued loyalty and support!

Estimating Department Update

Written by Jim Cohrs, Robertson Estimating Manager

Robertson Estimating Department – Daniel Moreau B.Eng EIT, Kris Julian, Les Duong, Jim Cohrs, Brett Lyddiatt, Jim Demik P. Eng, Sherif Refaat P.Eng

Robertson Estimating strives to meet the needs of our Builders in today’s ever-changing market place.  In the past few years it seems Architects are pushing metal building systems beyond the traditional “box”, leading to more complex and creative designs.

Robertson has seven experienced team members on staff, including three dedicated quote engineers, that provide our builders with the technical expertise and value engineering concepts needed to win projects in our highly competitive industry.  We continue to invest in our design and pricing tools, such as our user-friendly RBS (Robertson Building Software) system, which is constantly being updated and improved to quote the buildings of today.

We encourage all Builders to attend an upcoming Robertson Builder Orientation (RBO) course in Ancaster, where they will learn to harness the power of the RBS system through hands-on classroom instruction.  Once they apply their knowledge and understanding of RBS, Builders are quick to discover the end result is a faster, more complete quote.

Need to finalize a quote? Here’s what we need from Builders to ensure their quote is as accurate as possible:

Let us know the circumstances of the quote.  Is this a competitive bid situation or budget?  When will it ship?  This helps to better position our District Managers on how aggressive they can be when discounting your quote.  Also don’t forget to tell us when the quote is needed so we can prioritize the needs of all our Builders.

Always create a new file using the latest version of RBS and enter your project as accurately as possible.  Tell us about any special requirements that cannot be entered into the system by utilizing the Project Notes feature in RBS.  Builders can also send us drawings or sketches as a complement to their RBS file.  Providing us with realistic information on cranes, mezzanines, RTU’s and adjacent structures will ultimately lead to a better prepared quote.

Not sure how to enter into RBS?  Our team is available to guide Builders through any input screen in a matter of minutes over the phone.
